From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I really wanted a homebirth due to intense fear of hospitals.  My mum’s first reaction to this was horror!

My husband, although very excited to be a dad, had always (half joking) said he wouldn’t be in the delivery room with me.  His argument was that it was better for me to be able to concentrate and he would stress me out…. er, whatever dear!  He also argued that “back in the day” dads were not allowed in the delivery room.  I parked the conversation and instead persuaded him to come on a Hypnobirthing course, he was obviously very sceptical.

It was a 2 day course and at the end of day one, having learnt an incredible amount about my body and what it was capable of, I tentatively asked whether he would fancy a homebirth.  To my absolute surprise, he agreed in an instant.  His reasons were he now felt very knowledgeable and confident.

A hospital induction was far from my ideal, but Hypnobirthing kept me calm and in control throughout my 60 hour labour.

We had both attended our NCT course and the hospital classes, but nothing had explained the birthing process as well.  Hypnobirthing made sense to us, it seemed natural and a fantastic tool to give us the birth we wanted.

What Hypnobirthing Gave Us

We now have 2 amazing children. My first birth didn’t quite go to plan, but I used all the techniques I had learnt from our Hypnobirthing course to have a relatively stress free induction. A hospital induction was far from my ideal, but Hypnobirthing kept me calm and in control throughout my 60 hour labour.  My second birth was a perfect homebirth – I took a Hypnobirthing refresher and it all went to plan.

I would whole-heartedly recommend Hypnobirthing. Most importantly it worked for me, but it also allowed my husband to feel fully in control and able to share the experience with me.  It was a wonderful learning experience that prepared us for every eventuality.

Thank you.
